JOB DESCRIPTION
SCHOOL CLEANER/CATERING ASSISTANT
The following is an outline of the role of School Cleaner/Catering Assistant who is responsible to the Head
Chef, the Bursar and the Headmaster.
The principal duties of the School Cleaner/Catering Assistant is to provide appropriate support to the
Housekeeping and Catering teams and the school generally, ensuring the safety of themselves and others at
all times. The standard working hours will be 08.00 - 16.30 Monday to Friday. Occasionally you may be
required to work extra hours, this will generally be agreed in advance and will be either as time in lieu or paid.
This is a full time position.
The main duties will include:
1. Preparing and serving meals to pupils
2. Table setting in the dining rooms
3. Provide a high standard of cleanliness thought designated kitchen areas
4. Cleaning certain parts of the school site
5. Vacuuming carpeted areas and washing floors
6. Sweeping uncarpeted areas
7. Emptying and cleaning bins
8. Spot cleaning of spillages
9. Cleaning desk, seats, skirting boards and dining rooms
10. Cleaning toilet areas and replenishing toiletries
11. Cleaning doors and windows
12. Reporting all defects/hazards immediately to the Bursar or Head Chef

Skills and experience you will need:-
1. A reasonable level of fitness
2. Punctual, reliable and trustworthy
3. Able to manage time effectively
4. Ability to work both alone and in a team
5. Awareness of Health and Safety procedures
6. Food Safety and Hygiene Level 2 is preferable

The successful applicant will need their own transport and agree to an enhanced DBS reference being
obtained.

Safeguarding and Child Protection
The post-holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons’
for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact, will be to adhere to and ensure
compliance with the School’s Safeguarding Policy and Child Protection Statement at all times. If, in the
course of carrying out the duties of the post, the post-holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks
to the safety of welfare of children in the school s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Designated
Safeguarding Lead or to the Headmaster.
The successful candidate will be required to provide an enhanced DBS check. In seeking references on
short-listed candidates, the school may approach previous employers for information to verify particular
experience or qualifications before interview. Any relevant issues arising from references will be taken up at
interview.
