Applaud and encourage both teams playing.
In the free circulation areas of the site, I respect the
spaces reserved for people with disabilities.
I am respectful of the venue and the environment. I
use the designated paths and throw any litter in the
waste containers provided.
I behave in a civil and exemplary manner.
Violence, racist, discriminatory, sexist, anti-
LGBT+, and oensive remarks or behaviour have
no place at the Games.
SPECTATOR
CODE OF CONDUCT
A mixed-team sport, wheelchair rugby uses
specially designed manual wheelchairs. Two
teams of four players compete over four eight-
minute quarters. The aim of the game is to carry
the ball over the opponent’s try line, and stop
them from doing the same at the other end.
THE EVENT IN A NUTSHELL
A BIT OF HISTORY
Wheelchair rugby oicially joined the Paralympic
programme for the Atlanta 1996 Games.
Invented in Canada in 1977, wheelchair rugby is a
spectacular sport, in which noisy contact, frequently
punctured tyres and even wheelchairs flipping over form
an integral part of the game.
The United States and Australia dominate the medal table
with 7 and 4 gold medals respectively, including 3 and 2 gold.
